Who we are

The Edwards County Heritage Preservation Society, Inc., is a not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to preserving and celebrating the rich history of Edwards County. We are a membership organization comprised of individuals and businesses who share a passion for safeguarding our community's unique heritage – from its agricultural roots and historical landmarks to the stories and traditions that have shaped our identity.

One of our key achievements includes the roof restoration of the historic Emmerson Home, the birthplace of Louis L Emmerson, 27th Governor of Illinois. The home now houses the Edwards County Historical Society and Museum, ensuring that this architectural gem and its fascinating collection remain a vibrant part of our community.

Currently, we are advocating for the restoration of the Edwards County Jail, one of the oldest jail buildings in Illinois. The Edwards County Commissioners have applied for a Capital Development Grant to restore the building.

Our work involves identifying, documenting, and preserving significant buildings, sites, and artifacts that tell the story of Edwards County. We achieve this through advocacy efforts and restoration projects, ensuring that these pieces of our past are protected for future generations.

We rely on the generous support of our members and donors to continue this important work. Join us in preserving our cherished past! Explore our website to learn more about our current projects, upcoming events, and how you can become involved.
